We have released TLX9910, a photovoltaic output photocoupler for solid state relay[Note 1] for automotive equipment with improved the minimum open voltage.
In recent years, automotive applications are demanding more compact and safer. For this reason, longer life and smaller size of contacts are also required in the load control section of equipment, and there are many opportunities to use solid state relays instead of traditional mechanical relays.
The new TLX9910 is suitable for gating high-voltage power MOSFET used in solid state relays, which are a type of semiconductor relays. By combining a new product TLX9910 with a high-voltage power MOSFET, high-voltage and high-current switchings that are difficult to achieve with photorelays can be achieved. In addition, since the solid state relay does not have physical contacts like mechanical relays, contact troubles and operation noises during ON/OFF are less likely to occur. Therefore, it is suitable for switch applications of electric mobility. The new product TLX9910 complies with AEC-Q101.
[Note 1] No moving contact switch elements with electrically isolated between primary (control) and secondary (switch) sides
Battery management systems require high-voltage power MOSFET that can handle large amounts of power. High voltage power MOSFET tend to require a higher gate-drive voltage as the amount of output voltage and current are larger.
Our existing product[Note 2] has limited the high-voltage power MOSFET that can be selected from open voltages. The new TLX9910 offers a 13.5 V of approximately 1.9 times the minimum open voltage compared to our existing product, thus, offering a wider selection of high-voltage power MOSFET that can be combined.
For example, in case of existing product, the minimum open voltage is 7 V (min) and when high voltage power MOSFET gate drive voltage is over 10 V, open voltage is insufficient so two of them must be connected in series. By improving the minimum open voltage of the new product TLX9910, it is possible to drive the gate of a high voltage power MOSFET with a single product, thereby reducing the number of components mounted on the board. This will lead to a reduction in the size and weight of automotive applications.
[Note2] TLX9906: Minimum open voltage 7 V (IF = 10 mA, Ta = 25 °C)
The use of solid state relays instead of conventional mechanical relays is becoming increasingly popular as a means of reducing the weight and size of automotive applications. Therefore, there are many opportunities to use solid state relays instead of conventional mechanical relays. The new product is small and incorporates surface-mount 4pin SO6 packaging (3.7 mm × 7.0 mm, t = 2.1 mm), which contributes to the miniaturization of automotive applications.
Photovoltaic coupler has photodiode arrays (PDA), which generate electricity when it receives LED light. Therefore, the photovoltaic coupler itself serves as the power supply, and the external power supply can be reduced.
