First delivered in 1999, the SR Series redefined general aviation and became the best-selling high-performance single-engine piston aircraft in general aviation. With the launch of the SR Series G7, Cirrus focused on creating a more approachable aircraft and flight deck to invite more people to experience personal aviation.

“The new SR Series G7 is a testament to our mission and design philosophy of innovation, quality and safety,” said Zean Nielsen, Chief Executive Officer of Cirrus. “Our team and our aircraft provide a clear path to enter and advance within the personal aviation community by streamlining learning how to fly and transitioning to the Vision Jet with ease.”

The Cirrus team thoughtfully selected the Perspective Touch+ flight deck powered by Garmin because it offers familiar touchscreen interfaces, reduces pilot workload and enhances situational awareness. The Cirrus SR Series G7 Perspective Touch+ invites people to experience a new way of personal travel.

Design Philosophy Cirrus Perspective Touch+™

In the mid-1990s, Cirrus revolutionized the aviation industry by introducing a 10-inch multi-function display in the SR20. Not long after, the SR Series became the first to feature a complete glass cockpit incorporating the primary flight display that other manufacturers soon adopted as an industry standard. This pioneering spirit continues with the SR Series G7 and integrating the Cirrus Perspective Touch+, which boasts two dual 14-inch high-resolution displays and touch controllers providing unprecedented clarity and functionality ultimately transforming the flight deck into a state-of-the-art command center.

Ivy McIver, Executive Director of the SR Series Product Line of Cirrus, said that the philosophy for moving toward an all-touchscreen flight deck was reminiscent and empowering:

“I compare it to looking at the space shuttle back in the 80s. I remember looking at the flight deck of the space shuttle and thinking – I could never be an astronaut; it looks so complicated. Fast forward to May 2020 and the launch of the Crew Dragon shuttle – the flight deck looked so clean and simple with modern touchscreen avionics. It seemed approachable and made me think for a moment that maybe I could be an astronaut. We wanted the G7 to invoke those same feelings.”

Key Features of Cirrus Perspective Touch+™

SurfaceWatch:

Before the SR Series G7 takes you up to 25,000 feet, you need to get off the ground safely.

With SafeWatch, monitor your aircraft’s location and receive visual and audio alerts to prevent taking off or landing on the wrong runway, or a runway that is too short. SafeWatch also displays the remaining runway length, significantly enhancing pilot situational awareness.

Taxiway Routing & 3D SafeTaxi:

Taxiway Routing and 3D SafeTaxi are powerful features that complement each other.

Taxiway Routing ensures confident and safe taxiing while 3D SafeTaxi provides a detailed view of the airport environment. Combined, these features help navigate even the most complex airports. Enter a taxi clearance with ease and follow it with clearly displayed progressive instructions on the map in 3D to highlight hangars, terminals, taxiways, aprons, signs and other markings.

Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT)

Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) received a big update with the launch of the SR Series G7. Pilots enjoy a clear digital view during all phases of flight to improve safety regardless of the conditions or time of day.

Displaying a 3D virtual image of the ground, water, obstacles and new features like airport identifiers, that start 25 miles out and initially show in 4NM intervals, and as the runway gets closer, they will appear every 2NM intervals and then 1NM intervals, making approaches easier as well as having one less thing to worry about when you hear the classic “report 5 mile final.”

Scroll Wheel, CAS-Linked Checklists & Messaging

Checklist Scroll Wheel:

The Checklist Scroll Wheel and CAS-Linked Checklists further enhance pilot efficiency and safety.

The scroll wheel, a feature adopted from the Vision Jet, allows pilots to navigate through checklists with ease. While CAS-Linked Checklists automatically display relevant checklists based on system alerts and notifications.

Together, these features ensure that the pilot has immediate access to critical procedures when needed, eliminating the need for intensive searching.

CAS-Linked Messaging

With CAS Message Linking, the system automatically nominates a checklist based on activation of a crew alerting message. This feature links a Crew Alerting System (CAS) message with the applicable checklist, providing a new group dedicated to CAS-linked checklists. When a CAS message is active, the CAS Linking feature uses that group to list the checklist linked to the message. The flight crew has the option to disregard the nominated checklists and access other checklist groups if required, making CAS linking more efficient than searching through a full set of lists.

Garmin Touchscreen Controller

The Garmin Touchscreen Controllers in the Perspective Touch+™ system set a new standard for ease of use and pilot convenience.

These controllers feature responsive, icon-based “touch keys” that provide quick access to essential functions such as flight planning, mapping, procedures, audio controls and synoptics. The touchscreen interface is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, even in high-workload situations, allowing pilots to manage complex tasks with a few simple touches. The integration of these controllers with the Perspective Touch+ flight deck supports precise piloting and decision-making, ensuring a seamless and integrated flying experience. With features like gesture control and customizable layouts, the Garmin Touchscreen Controllers offer pilots a highly adaptable and efficient tool for managing the flight deck.

Large Widescreen Displays

Now available in 12 or 14-inch displays, the pilot gains spilt-screen capabilities and can present up to three separate windows of critical information while flying. View an approach chart, engine parameters and navigational map on one stunning screen. The improved display quality and larger size make it easier for pilots to read and interpret data quickly, contributing to safer and more efficient flight operations.

Introducing Auto Radar for the Vision Jet

Cirrus Aircraft today announced that Auto Radar powered by Garmin® and Cirrus IQ™ have been added as new advanced features on the world’s best-selling personal jet, the Vision Jet. These upgrades now provide pilots with increased situational awareness and connectivity during all stages of pre-flight and inflight activities.

“Cirrus Aircraft incorporates intelligent and award-winning innovations into its ecosystem to make flying simpler, safer and more approachable for the pilot and passengers,” said Zean Nielsen, Chief Executive Officer of Cirrus Aircraft. “The award-winning Vision Jet is a testament to our team’s ongoing dedication to advancing the personal aviation industry. Over the years, the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®) and Safe Return™ Autoland have revolutionized the Personal Aviation industry. Now with Auto Radar and Cirrus IQ connectivity, pilots have more situational awareness inflight and can streamline the preflight process.”

Auto Radar allows the pilot to select the desired radar range which then automatically scans the area ahead and displays a composite, real-time depiction of the weather. By automatically selecting an optimal horizontal scan pattern and vertical tilt combination, the Auto Radar system works to create an in-depth view of the weather ahead. It volumetrically profiles areas of precipitation to provide the pilot with a real-time composite view of radar returns. The imagery is clear with a 16-color palette and improved automatic ground-clutter suppression.

Introducing Cirrus IQ™ for the Vision Jet

Cirrus IQ is now available in the Vision Jet with the addition of LTE-enabled hardware. With the Cirrus IQ mobile app, pilots can proactively check key aircraft readiness items, updated after each flight from virtually anywhere in the world. Duluth, Minn. & Knoxville, Tenn. (28 January 2021) – Cirrus Aircraft today unveiled a new Limited Edition aircraft to commemorate the delivery of its 8,000th SR Series aircraft later this year – the 8000 Limited Edition SR Series. Inspired by the company’s rich history of designing and building aircraft that inspire people to experience the world through personal aviation, the new design features bold colors and unapologetic accents on the exterior and interior.

“The SR Series has an incredible history of innovation, evolution and invention,” said Zean Nielsen, CEO at Cirrus Aircraft. “Our team took that as inspiration to create a Limited Edition that breaks out of the boundaries of traditional aircraft design to reflect the energy and excitement of where we are going next.”

Echoing the momentum of the runway lines as you prepare for take-off, the 8000 Limited Edition SR Series features an exterior that is impossible to miss. The design is accentuated by an industry-first Volt wing paint scheme, commanding attention on the ground and in the air. The unmistakable graphics and colors carry through into the interior with Volt stitching on the seats and embroidery on the door, and luxury perforated leather on the seats and throttle. More information on the 8000 Limited Edition SR Series, as well as the backstory of its design can be found here. In addition to the exciting new design, each of the limited run of eight (8) exclusive 8000 Limited Edition aircraft will be delivered along with a curated series of gifts and events for the new owners.

Duluth, Minn. and Knoxville, Tenn. (31 August 2020) – Cirrus Aircraft and Garmin International, Inc. today announced Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification of the Cirrus Vision JetTM Safe ReturnTM system – a revolutionary system enabled by Garmin’s autoland technology that allows passengers to land the Vision Jet with just the touch of a button. The certification follows tremendous growth of the Vision Jet, including it becoming the world’s best-selling jet in general aviation earlier this year and delivery of the 200th Vision Jet last month. Now, with Safe Return and the Collier award-winning Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®), the Vision Jet provides the most comprehensive, must-have total safety solution in general aviation.

“With Safe Return, we are making personal aviation more accessible, elevating the passenger experience and taking the next step towards autonomous flight,” said Zean Nielsen, Chief Executive Officer at Cirrus Aircraft. “The Vision Jet sets a new standard in personal travel with the combination of Safe Return and CAPS, offering the ultimate level of safety, control and comfort for the pilot and passengers.”

The Safe Return activation button is purposefully located on ceiling of the Vision Jet’s cabin for easy access by passengers and can be activated, if needed, within minutes of the aircraft’s take-off. Once activated by the touch of a button, Safe Return assumes control of the aircraft and transforms the Vision Jet into an autonomous vehicle that navigates to the nearest suitable airport for landing, communicates with air traffic control, lands and brings the aircraft safely to a complete stop, allowing passengers to exit the aircraft. This revolutionary system is powered by the Cirrus Perspective+ by Garmin® flight deck, which uses all available aircraft data to calculate a flight plan, avoid terrain and weather, initiate an approach and complete a fully autonomous landing without pilot or passenger intervention.

Additionally, the flight deck provides visual and aural updates to the passengers, including current location, remaining fuel, airport of arrival and estimated time of arrival. Safe Return can be easily disengaged by the pilot with a simple press of the Autopilot disconnect button on the yoke if a passenger inadvertently activates the system.

“Garmin and Cirrus share a passion for designing and engineering products without compromise. Together, we have delivered some of the finest safety-enhancing technologies to our customers over the years, and we are proud to now add the certification of Garmin Autoland in the Cirrus Vision Jet to that growing list of accomplishments,” said Phil Straub, Garmin Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Aviation. “Congratulations to our collective teams who contributed to the certification of Autoland on the Vision Jet, a technology that will undoubtedly have lasting impacts on the safety of our aviation industry and the lives of our customers.”

In 2016, Cirrus Aircraft ushered in a new era in personal transportation with the FAA certification of the world’s first single-engine Personal Jet – the Vision Jet. The turbine aircraft defined a new category in aviation with its spacious pilot and passenger-friendly cabin featuring panoramic windows, reclining seats, comfortable legroom for five adults and two children, and as the only turbine aircraft with a whole airframe parachute system as standard equipment. Then, in 2019, Cirrus Aircraft unveiled and began delivery of the G2 Vision Jet, offering enhanced performance, comfort and safety with increased cruise altitude, speed and range, and a newly-upgraded Perspective Touch+TM by Garmin® flight deck.

More information on Safe Return and the G2 Vision Jet can be found at www.cirrusaircraft.com/visionjet.

Flying IFR in a Cirrus aircraft is a refreshing experience for any pilot – no matter the experience level. In fact, the SR Series was designed to optimize IFR flying, with the technologically-advanced Cirrus Perspective+™ by Garmin® flight deck delivering essential information to the large 10- or 12-inch flight displays for easy navigation.

To help demonstrate the ease of use of the industry-leading flight deck, we’ve asked our SR Series product team to outline the experience of flying IFR in a 2020 G6 SR Series.

Pre-Departure

  1. After a thorough pre-flight briefing and an examination of your aircraft, you’re ready to climb in and taxi out.
  2. Using the airport information database you can look up the local clearance / ground / tower frequencies and get your clearance.
  3. Next, you can enter your cleared route directly into the Cirrus Perspective+ avionics flightplan page using the convenient QWERTY keypad or wirelessly transfer it via a Bluetooth connection to the panel using either Garmin Pilot or Foreflight and Garmin FlightStream 510.
  4. With your aircraft setup for navigation, you work through your electronic pre-taxi and pre-takeoff checklists, using the enter key, each item can be checked off and is stored as completed, even if your flow is interrupted and you go to a different page, when you come back to the checklist, it remembers where you left off.

During Take-Off and Climb

  1. A single push of the TO/GA button on the throttle sets up the flight director for takeoff mode. Once cleared for takeoff, set your heading bug on the PDF to your assigned heading and advance the throttle.
  2. Unique to a Cirrus aircraft, at 600’ AGL an audible notification reminds you that CAPS® is available, and now you activate the Garmin GFC 700 autopilot. This 3-axis digital autopilot is capable of navigating the rest of the flight until you disconnect it at your approach minimums.
  3. As you climb, charted obstacles and terrain are depicted directly on the PFD. And with your route and altitude clearance set in the avionics, you can also see your cleared flight path as highway-in-the-sky boxes in the synthetic vision display, which aids your situational awareness by giving you a target to follow in the climb.
  4. Throughout your flight, the Garmin frequency database ensures you know you are talking to the right frequency, even showing the name of the air traffic control facility you are tuned into on the PFD.
  5. Now, you can complete the climb checklist and prepare to level off for cruise flight.

Cruising in Confidence While In Flight

  1. Once in cruise flight, you complete the cruise checklist on the MFD and tune in to your favorite music, via SiriusXM® . You can also monitor weather conditions, including animated NEXRAD weather, lightning strikes, freezing levels, winds aloft and destination METARs and TAFs, along your route through SiriusXM.
  2. Through cruise you can monitor the aircraft, with up-to-date critical engine information available on the engine indication strip on the MFD. Additional detail is also available on the dedicated engine monitoring page of the MFD.
  3. You can also be confident that the avionics are constantly monitoring the aircraft and will notify you if anything requires your attention. For example, if the outside air temp drops below 5°C, a notification appears on the PFD until the pitot heat is switched on. Similarly, an alert will appear if the fuel tanks exceed the recommended fuel imbalance, reminding the pilot to switch tanks.

As You Make Your Approach

  1. As you approach your destination, you can find the destination airport frequency info and tune into the local weather, via ATIS or AWOS, which are digitally selectable and can be loaded into the appropriate communication frequency with the press of a couple buttons without having to spin dials or type numbers.
  2. At this point you know to expect a visual or instrument approach, which you can load into the avionics and, once activated, the autopilot will navigate the approach (and the missed approach, if necessary).

Once Your Reach Your Destination

  1. After landing make sure to zoom in on the MFD and use geo-referenced SafeTaxi charts to know exactly where you are on the airport. This helps you navigate a new airport and find your preferred FBO with ease.
